Overnight Camp Subsidy

Connecting students with the wonders of Wadjemup

Wadjemup / Rottnest Island is a popular  school camp destination, offering a wealth of nature-based and cultural experiences to ignite curiosity among students of all ages. And now even more students can access the educational experiences on Wadjemup / Rottnest Island, with the Rottnest Island Authority Overnight Camp Subsidy.

Western Australian government public schools can apply for the program which includes from 75% to 100% subsidised fees for Rottnest Island Authority accommodation, bike hire and educational tours for schools which meet the criteria of an Index of Community Socio-Educational Advantage (ICSEA) percentile between 0 to 60 based on the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACRA) 2024 database.

Eligible schools can apply for round one of the subsidy from  10 am AWST Monday 31 March to 5 pm AWST Friday 11 April 2025 for overnight camp stay dates in Term 3 2025, subject to availability.

 

Overnight Camp Subsidy Inclusions 

Accommodation Accommodation in Kingstown Barracks Dormitories, Hostel and Governor Circle cottages for a maximum of three consecutive nights (Monday to Thursday nights in Term 3, 2025). 
Bike HireStandard pedal bikes (adult and child sizes) and accessible equipment for teachers and students from Pedal & Flipper Hire. 
Educational Tours One educational tour with the Rottnest Voluntary Guides Association. 

Cultural Safety

Teachers and students visiting Wadjemup / Rottnest Island will have the opportunity to request cultural safety services facilitated by a Traditional Owner. These services include cultural ceremonies and cultural tours.

Discounted Ferry Transfers

Ferry operators Rottnest Express and Rottnest Fast Ferries are supporting this program by providing discounts from 40% to 60% for successful applicants, subject to terms and conditions. Schools will need to make travel arrangements directly through Rottnest Express or Rottnest Fast Ferries

How to apply

  1. Read the Frequently Asked Questions to understand the eligibility requirements and selection criteria.
  2. Complete and submit the application form below by 5 pm AWST Friday 11 April 2025 to apply for the subsidy and indicate your preferred dates of stay. 

Please note: Applications will be assessed in order of ICSEA percentile from lowest to highest. Further priority will be given to applicants where the largest number of schools / students are able to be accommodated due to available dates of travel.

Applicants will be advised of the outcome in writing the week commencing Monday 28 April 2025.
